The Aztec were a powerful people who dominated central Mexico from the 14th -16th centuries.
From 1325-1521 the Valley of Mexico was the heart of Aztec civilization
Their capital city was Tenochtitlan, which was built upon raised islets in Lake Texcoco.
At its height Tenochitlan had a population of 20,000 and was larger than any city in Europe.
The Aztec waged wars of conquest and expanded rapidly after the founding of their capital.
At their height the Aztec controlled most of central Mexico.
The Aztec practiced human sacrifce on a scale larger than any culture in the world.
The Aztec believed that the daily sacrifce of the blood and hearts of sacrifical victims enabled the sun to rise each day.
The main reason the Aztec were so warlike, was so as to capture prisoners for sacrifice.
Every year over 20,000 people would be sacriifced to the Aztec gods
In 1521 Hernando Cortez, conquered Tenochtitlan
The Spanish founded Mexico City on the site of the ruined Aztec capital.
SPECIAL NOTE
This reminds me of GOD's First Commandment:
You shall have no other gods before Me. Ex 20:3
For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. I Chronicles 16:26
I am the LORD, and there is no other. There is no God besides Me. Isaiah 45:5
You shall worship the LORD your GOD and HIM only you shall serve. Matthew 4:10
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to DEMONS, and not to God:
and I would not that you should have fellowship with demons. I Cor 10:20
I pray that we all remember that. And that we not get so caught up in the study of false gods
that we ignore the real One!
