Description

This is a commission done for my by sigisfeld

This is a Hall of Judgment on the planet Tkara, a world which exists in my AU Star Trek New Start verse.
Scene takes place in the story 'Amethyst Skies.'

Amethyst Skies: Ch 1 (New Orders)
Captain's Log
Stardate 2260.12.1
The Saratoga has concluded its three week stay on the planet Astrana. This was a productive mission; we studied a beautiful new world, made a successful First Contact, learned many things about an incredible culture and made new friends, both for ourselves and the Federation.
We are now on-route to the Tolanis Cluster. After three weeks of acting as a planetary research station I know that the chance to study a unique collection of stars will please Stellar Sciences.

Kirk completed his log and sat back. Things were quiet now and he'd decided to use the remaining hours of his shift to catch up on reports and there were a lot. The Saratoga was six months along into its five year mission of circumnavigating Federation space. In that time there had been a lot of triumphs and a lot of tragedies.
The past two months had been a whirlwind of act

Hall of Judgment
12:00 PM

The inside of the Judgment Hall proved to be as solemn as the outside. After being let in by Security they were directed to one of several Chambers. They found themselves in a large imposing room colored entirely in black with streaks of dark red. All personnel inside it wore clothes of the same color.

At one end of the Chamber the Takarite Seal of Judgment was emblazoned in red, high on the wall. Beneath it was a raised bench where the Tribunal would sit; the Seat of Judgment.

On one side of the room was a large section where spectators were seated. On the other side of the room was the large section where the witnesses were seated.

Directly before the tribunal bench was a large circular area, the Circle of Trial. In the center of which was a raised circular platform surrounded by a five foot high metal barrier, The Circle of the Accused. Around it a large red circle with a white border was emblazoned on the floor; the Circle of Truth.

At exactly 1200 the lights in the room dimmed, although the area around the Circle of Trial remained illuminated and the Seal of Judgment cast a eerie red glow. </I>

Trials are presided over by a Tribunal
Tkarite Tribunal by SeekHim

TKARITE COURT PROCEEDINGS
Tkarite justice is swift, effective and often brutal.
When a person is arrested, preparations begin for a trial immediately.
Investigations are undertaken by the Karee. (Heads of both Military and Law Enforcement).
Tkarites boast, not unjustly, that they have one of the most efficient criminal investigation systems in the quadrant.
They are masters of acquiring and using information and this is particularly true in law enforcement.

All trials, both civil and criminal, take place in a Hall of Judgment.
The trial is presided over by a Tribunal made up of three judges.
Tribunal members always dress in black and red.
On Tkara black is a color of solemnity and power.
Red is the color of blood and judgment.

An Accuser, or prosecutor, states what the defendant is accused of and then presents arguments and evidence.
The defendant is appointed an Advocate to serve as defense attorney.
After both sides present their arguments the Tribunal makes a ruling.
Sentences are always carried out immediately.

SENTENCES
Tkarites have no prisons.
Punishment for offenses can be fines, property confiscation, community service, service to the person wronged,
being stripped of title/position, or banishment.
More serious crimes can result in floggings or mutilation.

Tkarites practice the death penalty for someone found guilty of treason, murder or sexual assault.
The sentence is carried by members of the Karee, who kill the condemned with blades.

MERCY
If someone is sentenced to die someone other than a family member or Advocate may ask for mercy for them.
This however is extremely rare.
Tkarites are as sharp and hard as the blades they revere and if someone is found guilty of a crime
meriting death, very seldom does even a family member ask for mercy on their behalf.

In the rare event that someone does ask for mercy, it is granted, but among
Tkarites even mercy can be cruel.
‘Tkarite Mercy’ is similar to a ‘Pyrrhic Victory.’
The condemned is given a small chance at survival, but might wish that they hadn’t been.</i></i>
