In some tribes of the Omo River Valley in southwestern Ethiopia, certain children
are considered Mingi (Impure, Ritually polluted)

Reasons for being declared Mingi are:
Being born out of wedlock.
Being the result of an unplanned pregnancy.
Being born a twin.
Being born with some sort of deformity or imperfection.
Having one's genitals injured in some way.
Having ones teeth develop in the upper jaw before the lower jaw.
Chipping a tooth during childhood.

Children declared Mingi are considered cursed by the spirits.

It is also believed that Mingi children will bring misfortune to
the community if allowed to live.

Children declared Mingi are either abandoned to die or killed.

Mingi children are either drowned, starved, or, in the case of infants,
have dirt stuffed in their mouths so that they choke to death.

Please, please pray that this evil practice stop!

Thailand is a located at the center of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia.

It is bordered by Burma and Laos in the north, Laos and Cambodia in the east,
the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia in the south, and the Andaman Sea and the
southern tip of Burma in the west.
Its maritime borders are Vietnam in the southeast, and Indonesia and India
in the southwest.

The population is over 66 million
Bangkok the capital and most populous city has a population of over 8 million.

FACTS
Thailand was originally called Siam until 1939

The Siamese Cat was originally bred in Thailand

The conjoined twins Chang and Eng Bunker  (1811-1874), were from Thailand.
From them came the term 'Siamese Twins.'

Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by Europe.
Because of this, the Thai use the phrase "Land of the Free"
to describe their country.

Thailand is also known as the "Land of Smiles" due to the easy-going
and hospitable nature of its people.

DEMOGRAPHICS

94.6%  Buddhism
4.6%    Islam
1%       Christian
0.1%    Hindu
0.1%   Other

HISTORY
Thailand has been inhabited for thousands of years

Thailand was heavily influenced by India

Thailand was part of the Kingdom of Funan (1st c-550 A.D.) and later
the Khmer Empire (802-1431)

After the fall of the Khmer Empire, various different states and kingdoms thrived in the area

Eventually the Thai established many of their own kingdoms
Sukhothai        (1238-1583)
Ayutthaya        (1350-1767)
Thonburi         (1768-1782)
Rattanakosin   (1782-Present)

During the Ayutthaya period, Thailand was one of the most vibrant
trading centers in Asia.
Slavery was widely practiced.

European traders arrived in the 16th century.
Despite European pressure, Thailand was never colonized.
The country acted as a buffer state between parts of Southeast Asia
that were colonized by Britain and France.

In 1932, a bloodless revolution ended centuries of absolute monarchy.

After WWII, Thailand went through decades of political instability
There were series of coups as one military regime replaced another,

During the 1980's the country stabilized both politically and economically.

CONDITIONS
Thailand's economy is heavily dependent on exports and industrialization.
Substantial industries are electronics, computer parts and cars.
As in many countries in East Asia, there is a growing spirit of entrepreneurship.

Tourism makes up about 6% of the economy.

The country has attracted a number of expatriates from developed countries.
There are over 2 million migrants in Thailand.
Only 600,000 are officially registered.
About 80% of the migrant population comes from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos

Migrant workers face tough living conditions, unsafe working conditions,
poor wages, no rights, persecution, arbitrary arrest, detention and deportation.

A large number of Karen reside in Thailand, mostly in mountain villages on
the Thai-Burmese border.

There are significant communities of Shan people in Thailand.
Many Shan fled their original homes to avoid political persecution.
Without legal rights of residence they eke out an existence as semi-migrants.
Loss of hope often leads to broken families and addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Although prostitution is illegal it is openly practiced.
Many local officials have commercial interests in prostitution.
It is estimated that 3% of the economy is supported by prostitution.

Since the Vietnam War, Thailand has gained international notoriety
as a sex tourism destination.

Child sexual exploitation is very prevalent.
Children are often forced into prostitution or human trafficking
in order to pay off family debts.
It has been estimated that children make up 40% of prostitutes in the country.

Today, over 700,000 Thais are HIV positive.

In 2012  Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines suffered from severe flooding.
Vast areas of farmland was flooded.
Thousands of businesses and homes were damaged.

POLITICAL CONDITIONS
In recent years the country has gone through internal political conflict

Since 2001, Muslim activists, have rallied against the government because of alleged
corruption and ethnic bias on the part of officials

Since 2005 there have been a series of political crisis between
the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and the People's Power Party (PPP)
The PAD's followers usually dress in yellow, called 'The yellow Shirts'
The UDD's followers dress in red, widely called 'The Red Shirts'
In 2010, a series of protests by the Red Shirts resulted in 87 deaths and 1,378 injured.

SPIRITUAL CONDITIONS
Nearly 95% of the population is Buddhist.
Thailand is often promoted as the "Most thoroughly Buddhist country in the world"
There are over 30,000 temples in the country and over 250,000 Buddhist monks.

For many Buddhism has become integrated with folk beliefs such as ancestor worship.
The Thai-Chinese population mix Buddhism with Chinese beliefs.
Most Karens are Buddhist, but also practice animism

For many Thai, nationality and religious identity are inextricably linked.
The common belief is that "To be Thai is to be Buddhist."

Although Buddhism is dominant there is religious tolerance.

4.6% of the population are Muslim, most of whom live in the southern provinces
There is a small but influential community of Sikhs.
Some Hindus live urban areas and are heavily engaged in retail commerce.

Less than 1% of the population is Christian
Most Christians live in the southern tip of the country
Thousands of villages in central Thailand are unreached

The church has been growing.
Conformity is highly valued and it is very hard for Christians to defy
family pressures.
In rural areas there is a great need for more Christian workers.

PRAYER NEEDS
Pray that political conflict be resolved peacefully
Pray that disputes between the PAD and the PPP be resolved
Pray that the conflicts with Muslims be resolved.
Pray that there be no more violence.

Pray for those who have lost loved ones to the violence
Pray that there be forgiveness, peace and reconciliation.

Pray that conditions improve for immigrants and migrant workers.
Pray for local organisations and churches who are trying to help
migrant workers both materially and spiritually.

Pray conditions improve for the Shan communities
Pray for those suffering from broken families and or addiction

Pray for those who have suffered as a result of flooding
Pray for the clean-up process and for the involvement of churches
and individual Christians

Pray that prostitution, trafficking and sex tourism cease.
Pray for those involved in it

Pray for the children who are sexually exploited

Pray for those suffering from HIV

Pray that the Gospel spread among the Buddhist, Muslims, Hindus and Sikh.
Pray that seekers be able to stand against family and societal pressure.

Pray that God would send out laborers to the thousands of unreached
villages in central Thailand.

Pray that occult spirits be bound

Pray that the urbanized and educated younger generation be willing
to examine the Gospel.

Pray for the small but growing Christian churches.
Pray that they be strengthened and able to stand against pressure.

Pray for current translation of the Bible in Thai
It is much easier for the common people to understand.
Unfortunately, many pastors have complained against its language
and production has stopped.

Hey to all of my watchers. I was wondering if you could help me out.

I first heard this song when I was watching a you tube clipping about horses
and I fell in love with it.

You tube
www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUTTUh…

The trouble is I have no idea who wrote this song or what the name of it is!
I was hoping maybe one of you guys might know.

Here are the Lyrics
***************************
Who's there for me when I'm all alone?
Like a drowning rose lying on the ground.
There's a voice I hear that is calling out my name
Saying I will hold your hand and give you strength.

You lift me up where the eagles fly.
Safe in your arms I am
You lift my heart when I reach for you
I know that I can go on.
When you hold my hand I am strong

You understand all that I go through
I can be myself with you
You're the reason why I can face the world again
Tell me where would I be now if it wasn't for you?

You lift me up where the eagles fly.
Safe in your arms I am
You lift my heart when I reach for you
I know that I can go on.
When you hold my hand I am strong
********************
Once again I DID NOT write this!

Prayer updates

2 min read
For those of you who have been keeping up with my prayer updates
I just wanted to think all of you for you support! :)

When I first started doing this months ago, I had at first only intended
to write updates about countries where the Church was suffering persecution.
But as time passed I realized that every country needs prayer regardless
of what state they're in.

At first I covered countries where persecution was occuring. After that
I pretty much skipped around the world at random. Then I decided that
I would be follow a pattern in order to make sure that I covered every country.

Which brings me up to my current status. :)
I've compeleted North America
(Greenland, Canada, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, the United States)

For the past month or so I've covered the Caribbean.
( I hadn't known that there were so many islands!)

Now I'm going to head for Central America and following that South America.
Hope the rest of you enjoy the trip!

GOD bless!
